Live-streaming A Hawaiian Monk Seal - APME News
It’s rare to have a Hawaiian monk seal give birth to a pup on a populated beach. In June of 2017, ‘Rocky’ gave birth to her pup Kaimana on Kaimana beach in Waikiki, Hawaii. Once a pup is born, the mother and pup rarely move from that location until the pup is weaned. This process usually takes about 30-40 days. I took the opportunity to see if we could setup a live camera the balcony of one of the condos nearby to livestream Rocky raising Kaimana. Our project worked and impacted thousands in the community who care for these animals. This article wasn’t publish in digital form so you can only see it from my screenshots posted on Twitter. If you click the video button, it will take you to the playlist on YouTube of all the livestreams produced for this project.
